What is GYROTONIC®?

GYROKINESIS®, developed by Juliu Horvath, a former dancer and Yogi, both incorporate key movements taken from ballet, yoga, swimming and gymnastics. Using graceful circular movements together with gentle resistance, the continuous
GYROTONIC® rhythmic movement elongates the spine and rejuvenates the spirit bringing the entire body and mind into balance. These unique and innovative exercises are either performed on attractively designed equipment or during floor mat exercise.
GYROTONIC® exercise is not linear but is in fact multi-dimensional, as it smoothly reverts back and forth from contraction to expansion. This procedure releases joints and ligaments from muscular constriction while at the same time strengthening surrounding tissue. In conjunction with the exercise procedure, a special method of harmonized breathing aligned with fluid movement takes the body through a complete and full range of motion.
How do I start taking GYROTONIC® at NWP?
Where do I begin? We require that your first session be a private one. This will introduce you to the
GYROTONIC® system, the apparatus, give you an idea of where your body is at, and allow you and your instructor to formulate some personal goals for you. Once you have taken the first private session, you will feel more comfortable with the language and philosophies of the
GYROTONIC® Expansion System.
How many Private sessions will I have to take? With
GYROTONIC® all sessions are private with the exception of the
GYROKINESIS® class and independent workouts. From our experience, beginners should take 4-10 private sessions before moving into independent workouts. Each student comes to us with their own background, therefore there is not a formula for everyone.
